Our Work
Otago has a colder climate and comparatively older housing stock than other regions of New Zealand. Many homes are poorly insulated or lack insulation altogether, leading to cold, damp conditions that impact health and wellbeing, and higher energy costs.
Cosy Homes allows various groups with a stake in improving Dunedin and Otago homes to work more effectively and achieve greater impact. We aim to be the region’s “one-stop shop” for warm and healthy homes information, resources and referrals.
As part of our work we:
- Provide free information, advice, resources and referrals to Otago residents seeking help making their homes warmer and healthier. Advice is dispensed online, in person, over the phone/text or via email. Contact us here.
- Act as a resource for community and social workers whose clients are experiencing cold and unhealthy homes.
- Provide free healthy homes education for community and social workers, community volunteers and others through talks/presentations tailored to your group’s interests and needs. Please contact the Project Manager to arrange a talk.
- Develop healthy homes programming and schemes at a regional level.
- Broker partnerships and collaboration between groups doing healthy homes work.
- Advocate for warm and healthy homes programming, subsidy and legislation at the local, regional and national levels.
