The Warmer Kiwi Homes programme now includes heating appliance subsidies for eligible households.
Subsidies are currently available for woodburners, pellet fires and heat pumps. Government covers 80% of the cost of a new heating appliance, up to a maximum of $3,000. In Otago, Cosy Homes Trust will cover 20% up to $300. The total subsidy available is $3300.
There are service providers in place for all three types of heating appliance in Otago.

Some households may be eligible for a heating appliance subsidy for medical reasons even if there is functional heating in the main living room (ie, installing a heatpump when there is a woodburner). Please inquire as these will be special circumstances.
Households will be eligible if:
- the home is owner-occupied (NOT a rental home)
- the home was built before 2008
- the homeowner has either a Community Services Card or a Gold Card with a Community Services Card endorsement
- the living room of the home has either no fixed heating appliance or only a non-functional fixed heating appliance
- in Airzone areas of Otago (Alexandra, Arrowtown, Clyde, Cromwell and Milton) with burner/burning restrictions as per the local air quality authority, Otago Regional Council, older non-compliant burners that are still functional may be eligible for a subsidy under this programme.

How much are the heating appliance subsidies?
The Government will cover 90% of the cost of a new pellet fire, woodburner or heat pump, up to $3,000. In Otago, Cosy Homes Trust will cover 10% up to $300. The total subsidy available is $3300.
The homewoner will be responsible for any costs in excess of $3300.

- Good Shepherd's Step UP Low Interest Loans ($1,000 - $5,000)
- ANZ offers interest-free loans to their home mortgage customers for insulation and heat pumps (up to $5,000)
Can I get insulation AND heating subsidies?
YES!
If you are eligible for the heating programme, you will also be eligible for the insulation programme. In Otago, current funding means that eligible households are able to receive 100% subsidised ceiling and underfloor insulation.
